On the right side of the image the tallest plume reaches almost to the top edge, a lower one beneath it bows to the left, and the outermost one at the right edge is cropped by the frame. The background is a warm, sepia-tinged sandy beige, with a delicate canvas texture and worn, distressed patches. Above the plumes in the left and central sections a calm, empty band remains, while at the bottom straight stems in sandy beige and light brown grow denser.
