On a wall 260 cm high with the full crop (about 460 cm wide), it measures about 3.4 m, and its lowest point, the tip of the fin, falls about 110 cm above the floor. The stripes on the belly are drawn with fine gold lines, gold spirals run along its side, and similar arcs outline several clouds and the crests of the waves. Here, gold is a printed colour. The clouds are cream, with cool, blue-grey shadows; between them you can see a beige background with a linen canvas weave, which is part of the image. The palette of cream, beige and grey-blue has none of the colourful fairy-tale look, so the design will still suit when a desk replaces the cot. In an adult bedroom, different qualities come into play: the painterly texture, the linen background and the fine gold lines, which tie in with linen bedding, pale oak and brass. A low bed will hide only the middle of the band of waves, and with the full crop both curling crests remain on either side of it.
