The head is on the left, in the upper half, close to the edge: the dark ears are high, the cream front of the head runs down, and the graphite muzzle ends a little below half the height. The neck and withers are graphite grey, the torso is pale, creamy white, with two rusty patches: on the shoulder and near the rump. The legs and rump melt into the background. The background is made of rectangular patches that look layered and scraped back: cream and ochre on the left of the image, grey-blue and graphite on the right and at the bottom. The surface resembles a patinated wall that has been rubbed back many times. On a wall 260 cm high with the full crop (about 464 cm wide), the head measures about 120 cm from ears to nostrils, and the muzzle sits about 115 cm above the floor.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eHow do you tell it apart from the other abstract horses?\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt is the only one of them that walks rather than runs. In a study with a steel desk and an armchair in ochre leather, the ochre of the background returns in the furniture. In an entrance hall with a stone floor, a low oak bench under the chest and front legs of the horse is enough.
