Cream clouds outlined with white and gold arcs float around. The background combines powdery beige with light blue, most distinct on the right, in front of the whale’s head. Navy waves with white, curling crests rise in the lower corners: the left reaches about 75 cm, the right, taller, about 85 cm above the floor, and in the middle, over a width of about 1 m, the bottom of the image stays light. The image looks as if painted with a soft brush. The whale is large, has a gentle outline, and its fins drop low, so it is close to the child. In a living room the same qualities work differently. A sofa placed in the middle will cover mainly the cream haze, and the two tallest crests will remain at its sides. The powdery beige and the white and gold arcs of the clouds go with ivory fabrics, travertine and bleached oak. The design does not look childish, because the whale is drawn seriously, without fairy-tale simplifications.
