SEA GLASS GARLAND - watercolour flower mural in turquoise and gold

A pale garland of turquoise blots runs across the whole width of the wall, as if someone had hung a string of glass flowers beneath the ceiling. This watercolour floral wall mural brightens a room and gives it a soft, pastel rhythm, while the lines and drops in the colour of gold add warmth. What can you see in the design?

SEA GLASS GARLAND is an abstraction that looks like a watercolour: round, transparent blots in a pale, bluish turquoise overlap and arrange themselves into flowers without an outline. The garland runs from the left edge to the right and takes up the upper two thirds of the image; one darker petal reaches lowest, slightly right of centre. On the flower in the upper left part lies a splash in the colour of gold. Thin gold lines join the flowers and lead to individual drops: the largest low on the left, smaller ones low on the right and near the middle of the right part. A few long, straight lines cross the lower right corner. The background is cream with a slightly pink tint, and it stays empty at the bottom.

On a wall 260 cm high the image is about 462 cm wide, a single flower about 90–115 cm and the largest drop about 16 cm in diameter. In this design the gold is a printed colour in a honey shade, without the shine of metal. You can tell it from its twin design FLOATING ANEMONES by the continuous band of flowers, the warmer background and the paler, bluer turquoise.

Which room does it suit?

In a bedroom the garland stretches above the bed like a canopy of colour. A low headboard will cover mainly the pale lower part, and the flowers will stay above it; the design suits bleached oak, wickerwork and white bedding. The largest gold drop lies low on the left, about 45 cm above the floor, so if it is to be visible, do not block that spot with a piece of furniture.

In a dressing room or by a dressing table the pale background does not darken the space, and the pastel turquoise looks good next to powder pink, brass and glass. In a dining room and a breakfast room the flowers line up above a round table, and the cream, slightly pink background suits light marble and wicker chairs. The flowers run from edge to edge, so on a narrower wall choose what is to stay in the crop: the left flower with the gold splash, or the right-hand side with the long lines.
