Tall grasses emerge from a grey mist and fill the wall with a calm, vertical rhythm. The low contrast means this misty grass wall mural never overpowers the furniture; instead, it quietens the room and gives it depth, as if a meadow at dawn began just beyond the wall. The eye rests on it, and the room gains a soft, diffused backdrop.

What does the design show?

Three tall, airy clumps of grass stand on the left of the image, in the centre and on the right. A fourth, shorter one leans out at the right-hand edge. Each clump is made up of thin, branching stems ending in soft taupe plumes, drawn as a dense web of fine blades. In the lower part the stems are sparse and bare, so the background shows through and the bottom of the wall stays light.

The background resembles marbled plaster: grey-beige, with pale, cloud-like patches in pearl grey that are more pronounced at the top and along the edges. The contrast between the grasses and the background is low, so from a distance the whole design reads as a misty landscape, while up close you can see the drawing of individual blades. On a wall 260 cm high, the image is about 464 cm wide; the tallest, central clump reaches about 240 cm, and its fluffy plume is about 140 cm high and about 120 cm wide.

Which interiors does it suit?

In a study, the muted grasses create a backdrop that does not distract you while you work. They look good in cool, north-facing light, alongside dark wood and grey upholstery – just as in our study room setting in an Amsterdam townhouse. A low desk or armchairs will cover only the sparse lower stems, leaving the plumes in view.

In a restaurant, a wide wall will show all the clumps at once, and the misty background will work like a view through a window. In our dining room setting, the grasses soften the transition between the dark table and the dusty pink chairs. In a Provençal-style kitchen, the grey-beige plumes will harmonise with stone, linen and dried herbs, and in a minimalist interior with pale wood and white they will add softness to the wall without introducing colour.

How do I choose the size and material?

ASHEN SPIRES is printed as a single image to the size of your wall. You set the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. On a wall 260 cm high and about 300 cm wide, roughly two full clumps will fit in the crop, so you decide which ones stay.

The main materials are Mura Vinyl Canvas and Mura Vinyl Intonaco. Canvas has the texture of a natural canvas weave and is the most versatile; it will bring out the fine drawing of the blades that you see up close, for example when sitting at your desk. Intonaco has a trowelled plaster texture that works with the marbled background and deepens the sense of mist when you view the wall from several metres away, as in a restaurant dining room. Alternatives are Mura Vinyl Sabbia, with its pronounced coarse sand grain, which adds graininess to the background in side light, and Mura Natur – a matt, eco-friendly non-woven on which the greys stay soft.

How can I buy with confidence?

With greys this subtle, it is worth seeing the design in your own space before you order the whole wall. From the product page you can order a sample of about 90 × 50 cm on one or two materials, which we dispatch within 1–3 working days. It lets you check how the taupe and pearl grey look in your light in the morning and in the evening, and what texture the chosen material has. If you would like a different arrangement of the clumps or warmer tones, the studio will adapt the composition, colours and crop to your interior.
