BETWEEN GUSTS - pampas grass and sky wall mural for the bathroom

The wall becomes an open meadow just before the weather turns: a cool sky above, mist lower down and grasses that the wind has bent for a moment. The image does not close the room in; it brightens it, because its centre stays empty and milky. A wall like this gives breathing space to a bathroom, a narrow hallway or a calm bedroom.

What does the design show?

The upper part of the image is taken up by a grey-blue sky with rubbed, softly blurred clouds. Beneath it stand two groups of creamy pampas grass plumes, leaning to the right. On the left of the image you can see two tall plumes and a third, cropped by the edge of the design. On the right, a tight group of four plumes gathers, and this is what catches the eye first. The centre remains empty: from mid-height all the way down it is filled with a pale, milky mist on which thin blades stand out like pencil strokes. Along the bottom edge, on the left and on the right, clumps of leaves in olive green and khaki darken the scene. The whole image has a painterly texture with visible brushstrokes.

On a wall 260 cm high with a full-height crop, a single plume is around 65–80 cm long, and the right-hand group fills a band around 115 cm high. The plumes sit between around 110 and around 235 cm above the floor, so a low cabinet or chest of drawers will not hide them.

Which interiors does it suit?

In a bathroom, the grey-blue sky pairs well with white ceramics, pale stone and wood in cedar or oak tones. Set the crop so that the group of four plumes falls beside the mirror rather than behind it. In soft, diffused morning light, the mist and the airy grasses come to the fore. In the room setting we show a Moroccan-style bathroom with a low cedar cabinet.

In a hallway, especially one without a window, the milky centre of the image creates a sense of depth; a low oak console and a matt lamp are all you need. In a coastal or Scandinavian-style bedroom, the design pairs with blue-grey bedding and whitewashed wood, while a low bed keeps the right-hand group of plumes in view.

How do I choose the size and material?

BETWEEN GUSTS is a single pampas grass and sky wall mural printed to the size of your wall, with no repeating strips. You set the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. On a narrower wall, shift the crop so that at least the right-hand group of four plumes fits; a wall around 4.6 m wide and 260 cm high will show the whole image with both groups.

The main materials are Mura Vinyl Canvas and Mura Vinyl Intonaco. Canvas has a natural canvas weave texture and is the most versatile – it deepens the painterly character of the sky without taking any lightness away from the plumes. Intonaco has a trowelled plaster texture, against which the misty centre begins to resemble a rubbed-down wall; it is a good choice when you view the image from about a metre away, as in a narrow passage. Alternatives are Mura Vinyl Sabbia, with a pronounced coarse sand grain texture that gives the clouds a grainy look in side light, and Mura Natur – an eco-friendly, matt, odourless and hypoallergenic non-woven on which the grey-blue tones look quiet and soft.

Before you order the whole wall, order a sample from the product page: a print of around 90 × 50 cm on one or two materials, which we dispatch within 1–3 working days. Hold it against the wall and check how the grey-blue and cream look in your light and what texture the chosen material has. If you would like a different arrangement of the grasses or a warmer sky, our studio will adapt the composition, colours and crop to your interior.
