BIRCH RUN - winter forest wall mural with horses for dining room

Horses burst out from between the birches straight towards the room, and the snow beneath their hooves rises like a pale mist. The wall gains the depth of a whole winter forest without turning dark: the blue, cream and peachy brown are all softened with white, so the herd brings movement and the room stays light.

What does the design show?

BIRCH RUN shows seven horses at a gallop, seen from the front. A chestnut-and-white horse leads, with a white patch on the forehead and a light, flowing mane: its head falls slightly left of centre, in the upper part of the image. On the left run two pale beige horses, on the right four more, paler and paler, up to a white one and a last horse barely outlined in the snowy dust. Along the left edge stand the white trunks of birches, and deeper in the trees blur into vertical streaks of blue and warm cream. The bottom is filled with churned-up snow with blue shadows. The colours are laid down in short, visible brushstrokes, without sharp outlines. On a wall 260 cm high with a full crop (about 465 cm wide), the leading horse measures about 200 cm from the ears to the hooves, and its head with the ears is about 65 cm. The heads of the other horses fall in a band about 140–200 cm above the floor.

How does it differ from similar designs?

The Horses collection has three herds in a birch forest. In BIRCH RUN the horses run straight at the viewer and almost all of them are in shades of beige, cream and white, with one clearly chestnut accent in the middle. FROSTLIGHT HERD is a herd of white horses with a large head shown in profile, and FIRST SNOW has warmer, sunnier light and two foals beside a white-and-brown horse.

Which interior does it suit?

A dining room with a long table is the first place for this design: the tabletop and chair backs end at the height of the snow and the legs, so the whole row of heads stays above them. In a living room put a low sofa in cream wool in front of the wall; a back up to about 80 cm will hide only the snow and the lower part of the legs. Choose low table lamps and place them to the side, under the birches or by the right edge. A pendant lamp right next to the wall, at a height of 170–240 cm, would cover the head of the leading horse. A third option is the lounge of a small mountain hotel: from a few metres away the brushstrokes merge into a soft light.

How do you choose the size and material?

This winter forest wall mural with horses is one image printed to the size of your wall. You set the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. On a wall about 300 cm wide (at a height of 260 cm) you can fit the leading horse with the two horses on the left and the birches or, after shifting the crop, the middle and the right part of the herd. Set the crop so that no head is cut by the edge of the wall.

The two main materials are Mura Vinyl Canvas, the most versatile, with a natural canvas texture, and the textured Mura Vinyl Intonaco, with a trowelled plaster texture. On canvas the short strokes look as they would on a large picture, while plaster adds grain to the snow and mist. The alternatives are Mura Vinyl Sabbia, with a distinct coarse sand grain texture (it is neither smooth nor satin), and Mura Natur – an ecological non-woven, matt, odourless and hypoallergenic.

How do you buy with confidence?

The softened blue and peachy brown change with the light: in a north-facing room they will look cooler, and in the evening under lamps warmer. So order a sample first – a print of about 90 × 50 cm, on one or two materials, available from the product page and sent within 1–3 working days. Hold it against the wall and judge the colours and the texture of the material next to your furniture.
