BLUE YONDER - blue-sky whale wall mural for a child’s room

A cobalt sky, clouds swirling in a wide arc and a white whale with a fin spread like a wing. It is a design with strong colour and distinct movement, which in an older child’s or a teenager’s room becomes the main theme of the interior and does not look childish.

What does the design show?

In BLUE YONDER the whale swims to the left, slightly above the middle of the image, and lifts its head a little. It is white with a cream tint, and its throat is covered with even, fine grooves. A long fin spreads over the back to the right like a wing; a second, grey-blue one drops beneath the belly. The tail is raised on the right of the image.

The sky is a saturated cobalt blue, and white and cream clouds circle the whale in a wide arc. In the lower part, mainly on the right of the image, small coral and orange accents appear, and the bottom itself darkens to navy. Long, fluid brushstrokes are visible everywhere. On a wall 260 cm high the image is about 460 cm wide, the whale about 2.4 m long, and it swims in a band from about 120 to about 205 cm above the floor. The largest coral patch, about 30 cm wide, lies about 90 cm above the floor.

The layout is similar to CERULEAN GLIDE, but the character is different. That design is lighter, with short dabs of the brush and ochre instead of coral. BLUE YONDER has a deeper colour, a darker bottom and more movement: choose it when the room has light furniture and needs one strong wall. For a young child, the gentler CERULEAN GLIDE will be better.

Which child’s or teenager’s room does it suit?

In a teenager’s bedroom, a blue sky whale mural replaces posters and pictures: a single wall is enough for the whole decoration. The whale swims high, so a low bed, a desk and a bent-plywood chair stay in the lower, darker part of the image, and above them the sky opens up. You can repeat the cobalt in a single accessory, for example a wool throw.

In a playroom, especially a tall one with exposed ceiling beams, the design fills the whole wall and does not get lost next to large objects: a climbing ladder, a toy chest, floor cushions. In a reading nook you can use a narrower crop: a beanbag then stands beneath the whale, and a runner with blue stripes echoes the cobalt at the bottom of the image.

How do you choose the size and material?

Each order is a single image printed to the size of your wall. You set the width, height, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. On a wall about 3 m wide you will fit the whole whale together with the largest coral patch; on a distinctly narrower one you have to choose between the head and the tail.

Mura Vinyl Canvas and Mura Vinyl Intonaco are the two materials we suggest starting with. Canvas has the weave of natural canvas and is the most versatile; with the long, fluid brushstrokes it gives the impression of a large painting on canvas. Intonaco, structured, with a trowelled plaster texture, adds an unevenness to the clouds that shows in light falling from the side. The alternatives are Mura Vinyl Sabbia, which is neither smooth nor satin and has a pronounced coarse sand grain that shows mainly up close, and Mura Natur: an eco-friendly non-woven, matt, odourless and hypoallergenic. Its matt finish suits the deep cobalt.

How can you buy with confidence?

A saturated cobalt can look different on a screen and in print, so start with a sample. You order it from the product page as a print of about 90 × 50 cm, on one or two materials; we ship it in 1–3 working days. In the room itself you will judge the colours and the texture of the material in its own light.

You create an AI visualisation on a photo of your own room yourself on the product page, also together with your teenager. On request the DECOMURA team will also prepare a studio visualisation in 1–2 working days, and, also on request, the studio will adapt the composition, colours and crop of the design to the interior. Orders are usually completed in 3–7 working days; in Poland and Europe we ship them free, to other countries at the rate shown in the basket. On request we arrange installation anywhere in Europe; the quote is individual. The printing is eco-friendly and certified.

You will find gentler and darker skies with the same hero in the Sky Whales collection, and designs for younger and older children among the wallpapers for children’s rooms. Ask about fitting the crop to a particular wall during a consultation with the studio.
