CLAY AND CREAM - horse portrait wall mural in beige and terracotta

The head of the horse takes up almost the whole height of the wall here, and yet the interior stays quiet. This is thanks to the smooth beige around it, cut by only one band of terracotta: the colours of clay, sand and cream warm the room and bring no movement into it.

What can you see in the design?

CLAY AND CREAM is a large portrait of a pale horse with a lowered head. The head is to the left of the centre of the picture and runs from the top edge, which cuts off the tips of the ears, to about four fifths of the height. On a wall 260 cm high with the full crop (about 460 cm wide), the visible part of the head measures about 210 cm, and the dark muzzle sits low, about 50 cm above the floor. The forehead and nose are creamy white, the forelock and mane dark grey, and under the neck lies a deep, brown-grey shadow. The neck and back run towards the right side of the picture and dissolve into pale, broad patches. The background is a smooth beige. On the left, at the height of the horse's forehead, a horizontal band of terracotta crosses it; a small rusty accent returns by the right edge. Close up you can see traces of a broad brush and a palette knife.

How does it differ from similar designs?

The closest is SIENNA STANCE, but there you see the whole horse with its legs, and the rusty band is broad and dominates the background. Here the crop is tighter, there is little terracotta, and the wall remains mostly beige. TENDER GLANCE has the same placement of the head on the left, but in cooler pastels with sage green.

Which interiors suit it?

In a living room the design combines with cream linen, light pine and a sand-coloured wool rug; two rusty cushions are enough to repeat the band of terracotta. In a study it suits a light oak desk and a chair upholstered in terracotta-coloured leather. In a bedroom the same colours return in cream bedding and a rust-coloured wool throw. In every one of these rooms one rule applies: the horse's muzzle is low, so place the furniture by the right part of the wall and leave the floor free in front of the left. A sofa or desk placed under the head would cover the nostrils.

How do you choose the size and the material?

A wall mural with a horse in beige and terracotta is a single image printed to the size of your wall. The head with the neck takes up the left half of the picture, so on a wall about 250 cm wide you can keep just the portrait and give up the right, lighter part. If the crop has to be trimmed vertically, be careful with the bottom: the horse's muzzle is about 50 cm above the bottom edge.

Of the two main materials, Mura Vinyl Canvas is the most versatile, and its natural canvas weave gives the smooth beige a slight weave.
