CRACKLED STUCCO - fresco-style ginkgo wall mural for a living room

A cream wall with a fine network of tiny cracks looks here like old plaster on which large ginkgo fans have been imprinted. The pale background leaves plenty of light in the room, and a single dark leaf in a deep sea blue draws the eye and organises the whole image. Coral drips near the edges add warmth and a touch of ease.

What can you see in the design?

The motif is large, fan-shaped ginkgo leaves spread across the whole width of the cream, worn background. Fine cracks, clearest at the top in the middle, give the look of old plaster – in the print they are flat, part of the image. The top row is made up of three translucent leaves in sandy beige with finely drawn veins: on the left of the image, in the middle and on the right, the last of which has a peach tint. To the left of centre, on a long, thin stalk, stands out a dark leaf in a deep sea blue with small ochre flecks. In the lower half, from the middle towards the right edge, a cluster of sea-blue and olive leaves thickens, and low on the left and along the right edge coral drips and splashes of paint run down. On a wall 260 cm high the dark leaf is about 125 cm wide and about 75 cm tall, and its top edge falls about 70 cm below the ceiling.

Which interiors does it suit?

Living room. The cream background and sandy leaves go with oatmeal-coloured linen, travertine and honey-coloured stone, and sea-blue cushions repeat the colour of the dark leaf. Place the sofa rather beneath the denser, right-hand part of the lower half, so that the dark leaf on the left of the image stays completely uncovered – this is how the living room is arranged in the setting of a restored palazzo in Lecce.

Dining room. The coral drips pick up the colour of a terracotta floor and a linen table runner. A table placed in the middle of the room, away from the wall, lets you view the image from corner to corner, and from a distance of 2–3 metres the cracks in the background read like the texture of a fresco.

Hall. At the entrance, where there is only a narrow bench or console, the pale background brightens the space, and the dark leaf works like a large painting facing the door. A black and white floor and a brass lamp will strengthen the contrast of sea blue with cream.

How do you choose the size and material?

CRACKLED STUCCO is a single large image printed to the size of your wall; at a height of 260 cm the whole design is about 4.6 m wide. On a narrower wall, move the crop to the left if the dark leaf matters most to you, or to the right if you prefer the dense cluster of sea-blue and olive leaves.
