CRAQUELURE - forest wallpaper with cracked plaster effect for a library

This wall looks like old masonry with a winter forest of white trees showing through it. The mist in the upper part opens up the room, while the cracked plaster below gives it warmth and weight. The interior becomes quiet, bright and a little older than it really is.

What does the design show?

The centre of the upper part of the image is left empty: a wide opening of smooth, pale grey-blue mist without a single tree in it. On the left side of the image stand trees with soft, cream-beige crowns and a few white trunks. To the right of the centre rise two slender cream trunks, and the right third is taken up by a dense group of the palest white trees with thin, lacy branches reaching the top edge.

The bottom third is covered across the full width by a distinct texture of cracked, peeling plaster: white flakes on warm sand, crossed by the pale streaks of the trunks. On the left side of the image this band rises almost to half the height. On a wall 260 cm high, the cracked band is about 85 cm high, rising to about 120 cm on the left, and the group of white trees takes up about 140 cm of the width. The palette is made up of pale grey-blue, warm sand, cream beige and white.

Which interiors does it suit?

In a library, the cracked band at the bottom pairs with wooden bookshelves, a leather armchair and old stone, while the mist above them leaves room for the eye – just as in our room setting in an Umbrian tower. A low armchair and side table will at most cover the lower band of texture, and the trees stay visible.

In a restaurant, the image fills the long wall of the dining room and warms up a raw, industrial interior of brick and steel. Low benches and tables leave the centre open, so the misty clearing stays in the guests' line of sight.

In a minimalist bathroom, the white of the trees and the sandy plaster work with concrete, stone and oak. It looks best in diffused daylight, which brings out the contrast between the cool mist and the warm lower part. The same distressed forest wall mural suits a living room or bedroom in a Japandi or wabi-sabi style, where traces of time on the surface are part of the decor.

How do you choose the size and material?

CRAQUELURE is a single image printed to the size of your wall, in a proportion close to 16:9 – at a height of 260 cm this gives a width of about 460 cm. You set the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. On a narrower wall, decide in the crop whether the group of white trees on the right side of the image or the misty clearing in the centre matters more.
