EMBER STRAND - ginkgo wall mural with rust lines for a living room

Large, pale ginkgo leaves lean out of the sage green, and between them two currents of lines flow: a wide one in dark sea green and a thin, rust-coloured one. The wall gets a distinct plant drawing and a warm colour accent that is easy to repeat in ceramics, cushions or wood.

What can you see in the design?

The ground is sage-and-jade green with a fine linen weave visible in the print. On the left of the image several creamy white leaves with wavy edges overlap and take up almost the full height – on a wall 260 cm high this cluster is about 220 cm. In the upper part of the right half a single leaf, curled like a funnel, floats on a long stalk; its fan is about 120 cm high and about 180 cm wide. Pale, transparent leaves show through behind the main leaves, and in the lower right corner a pale arc of lines curls round.

From the left edge up towards the middle runs a wide, wavy ribbon of dark lines in sea green. From the top right corner diagonally across the middle flow thin, rust-orange threads – it is they that warm the cool green of the whole image, which at this wall height is about 4.6 m wide.

Which interiors does it suit?

Living room. The rust threads suggest accessories: ceramics the colour of rust, walnut, cognac leather or the amber glass of a lamp. Place a low sofa in dark sea green, as in the living room setting in a 1960s house in Los Angeles, beneath the middle of the wall – the funnel leaf will then stay uncovered above its back.

Hotel lobby and lounge area. The cluster of leaves on the left of the image can be seen from afar, so the design organises a long lobby wall. Rust-coloured armchairs and the pale stone of the floor go with the rust lines and the cream of the leaves.

Dining room. With an oval walnut table and chairs upholstered in green velvet, the wall provides a calm backdrop, and the warm threads enliven it in the evening, in the light of a lamp standing on the table.

If the wall is narrower than about 4.6 m, decide in the crop whether the cluster of leaves on the left matters more, or the single funnel leaf with the rust threads on the right of the image.
