GREY NIMBUS - grey wall mural with a whale in the clouds for a bedroom

A white whale swims through a grey, misty sky, and light clouds swirl around it. It is a calm, cool wall for a bedroom: darker at the top and the bottom, brightest in the middle, where the animal is.

What does the design show?

In GREY NIMBUS the whale is smaller than in the related light designs and leaves plenty of space for the sky. It swims to the left in the middle of the wall, with its tail raised on the right; at a height of 260 cm it measures about 2.5 m from snout to tail tip. It is white, and the edges of the fins and the snout have rust-brown accents. The fins end about 105 and 115 cm above the floor.

It is surrounded by white and light grey clouds: a wide band stretches beneath it, at a height of about 70–130 cm, and a second sits higher up. Further out the sky darkens to steel blue and graphite, most strongly at the bottom, especially in the corners, and under the ceiling, and in the dark areas small patches of worn ochre show through. The image has a soft, misty texture and the weave of fabric, as on a painter’s canvas; this is part of the image, not a relief on the wall.

How is it different from similar designs?

On the collection’s list it is easy to confuse this design with two other light whales. OCHRE PASSAGE has an abstract background, with ochre and grey-blue, and no clouds. MILK AND HONEY is cream and warm, with vertical streaks instead of a sky. GREY NIMBUS is the coolest of them and the only one of the three to show a sky with clouds.

Which interior does it suit?

As a grey wall mural with a whale, the design suits a bedroom above all. With a low bed and stone-coloured bedding, the dark bottom of the image hides behind the headboard, and the whale and the light clouds stay at eye level. Grey oak, blackened steel, linen and concrete go with it, and the worn ochre patches can be repeated in a single wool throw.

In a living room with a deep sofa upholstered in light grey linen and a table of dark stone, the wall stays within the palette of the furniture but adds the depth of a sky. In a bathroom the white of the whale repeats the white of a freestanding bath, and the greys suit limestone and brushed nickel. This is advice about colours; talk to us about the conditions in a particular bathroom.

How do you choose the size and material?

It is one large image printed to the size of your wall. You set the dimensions, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. At a height of 260 cm the image is about 460 cm wide, and the whale lies near its centre, so it fits whole on a wall as narrow as about 2.7 m. The dark band at the bottom is about 80 cm high and for the most part disappears behind a bed or a chest of drawers.

We recommend Mura Vinyl Canvas and Mura Vinyl Intonaco. Canvas has the weave of natural canvas, is the most versatile and matches the painterly character of the clouds. Intonaco, structured, with a trowelled plaster texture, shows most strongly in side light, for example by a window. The alternatives: Mura Vinyl Sabbia is neither smooth nor satin and has a pronounced coarse sand grain, which will be clearly visible on such a soft, blurred design. Mura Natur is an eco-friendly non-woven, matt, odourless and hypoallergenic; its matt finish suits the misty greys.

How can you buy with confidence?

Grey on a screen and grey on a wall are often two different colours, so with this design a sample matters a great deal. You order it from the product page: it is a print of about 90 × 50 cm, on one or two materials, shipped in 1–3 working days. Check at home whether the steel blue is too cold next to your floor and bedding.

You create an AI visualisation on a photo of your own room yourself on the product page. On request the DECOMURA team will prepare a studio visualisation in 1–2 working days, and, also on request, the studio can adapt the composition, colours and crop of the design to the interior. Orders are usually completed in 3–7 working days, shipping in Poland and Europe is free, and to other countries we charge it at the rate shown in the basket. We arrange installation anywhere in Europe on request and quote it individually. The printing is eco-friendly and certified.

The other designs, from cream to navy, are in the Sky Whales collection. You will find more calm designs for the wall behind a bed in the wallpapers and wall murals for bedrooms category, and you can discuss questions about a bathroom during a consultation with the studio.
