INDIGO NOCTURNE - navy whale wall mural among the stars

A navy wall, on it a pale whale drawn in a fine line, and near the edges a handful of tiny stars. Nothing here billows: the animal swims horizontally, as in an engraving from an old atlas. A room with such a design becomes darker and more focused.

What does the design show?

A white whale swims horizontally, slightly above the middle of the wall, head to the left, with its tail raised on the right. Its silhouette is outlined with a fine dark line, and the throat is covered with parallel lines. The body is off-white with a bluish shadow on the belly. The background is deep navy and indigo in vertical, uneven bands, lighter in the middle and dark at the edges. At the top and along the sides, white and cream dots like stars are scattered, from specks to spots the size of a coin. The whole looks like an ink drawing on a background of diluted paint.

On a wall 260 cm high the image is about 462 cm wide and the whale about 275 cm long. The tip of the longer fin falls about 95 cm above the floor, so lower furniture stays beneath it.

The collection’s other night design, STARLIT WHALE, is a smaller whale swimming to the right through a sky densely strewn with gold stars, surrounded by turquoise. INDIGO NOCTURNE is more restrained: a larger whale facing left, only navy and white, with stars just at the edges. Choose the other one for a small child’s room, and this one when the wall should also suit an adult interior.

Which interior does it suit?

In a home library and a bedroom, the most restrained qualities of the design count most: the drawing in a fine line, the palette limited to navy, indigo and white, and the absence of gold. The wall resembles an enlarged engraving and goes with dark oak, velvet and brass. In a child’s reading nook or a teenager’s room, the stars and the hero itself matter more: a large, calm animal drawn without childish simplification. The stars at the top and at the sides frame the seating area, and you can repeat the indigo of the background in cushions and a blanket.

It is a dark design: apart from the whale, the whole wall is navy. By day, next to a large window, the vertical bands of the background are clearly visible; in the evening, in weaker light, they may blur. In a small room or an alcove, put it on one wall and leave the others light, so that the navy is an accent.

How do you choose the size and material?

INDIGO NOCTURNE is a single image printed to the size of your wall; you choose the dimensions, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. With a height of 260 cm, the whole whale fits on a wall at least about 2.8 m wide; on a narrower one, choose a crop with the head and fins.

We put Mura Vinyl Canvas and Mura Vinyl Intonaco first. The first has the weave of natural canvas and is the most versatile; the weave reinforces the impression of a drawing on fabric. The second, with a trowelled plaster texture, is structured and strengthens the unevenness of the vertical bands, so the background looks like a worn wall. An alternative is Mura Vinyl Sabbia, with a pronounced coarse sand grain: it is neither smooth nor satin, and up close its grain competes with the fine line, so choose it rather for a wall viewed from a few steps away. Mura Natur is an eco-friendly non-woven, matt, odourless and hypoallergenic; its matt finish suits the drawn character of the design.

How can you buy with confidence?

A print will show you whether this navy is deep enough and the line distinct enough. A sample is a print of about 90 × 50 cm, on one or two materials; you order it from the product page, and we ship it in 1–3 working days. At home you will judge the colours and the texture of the material.

On the product page you can also create an AI visualisation on a photo of your own room yourself. On request the DECOMURA team will make a studio visualisation in 1–2 working days, and the studio will adapt the composition, colours and crop of the design to the interior. We usually complete orders within 3–7 working days, and shipping in Poland and Europe is free; to other countries at the rate shown in the basket. On request we will also arrange installation anywhere in Europe, with an individual quote. The printing is eco-friendly and certified.

Other versions of this theme, from cream clouds to a dark stormy sky, are in the Sky Whales collection. If you like animals on the wall, also take a look at artistic wallpapers with animals.
