INK HYDRANGEA - turquoise floral mural for dining rooms and bedrooms

A dense cluster of dark turquoise petals spreads across the cream wall like ink on wet paper. This teal floral wall mural brings depth of colour into the room while leaving plenty of light, calm background, so even a large wall does not feel heavy. A few drops and threads in the colour of old gold warm the cool turquoise.

What can you see in the design?

INK HYDRANGEA is an abstract composition: rounded, translucent blots overlap one another like petals, and only from a distance do they bring to mind a hydrangea flower. The cluster takes up the upper and central part of the image, from the left side to roughly three quarters of the width. The darkest petals, in a deep sea turquoise, lie in the left part of the cluster and low down in its right part, and by the right edge the colour dissolves into a pale turquoise haze. Between the petals run hair-thin gold threads, which join several drops in the colour of old gold; one drop hangs alone low in the middle. The background is warm, cream, with barely visible vertical streaks, and it stays empty at the bottom.

On a wall 260 cm high the whole image is about 462 cm wide, the cluster about 310 cm, and individual petals from about 65 to about 100 cm. The round drop just by the top edge, above the right part of the cluster, is then about 18 cm wide. Here the gold is a printed colour, a warm shade of ochre, and not a metallic coating.

Which room does it suit?

In a dining room the cluster of petals hangs above the table like a large picture. Dark turquoise looks good with walnut or oak, and the cream background echoes the colour of linen upholstery and pale tableware. In a bedroom, put the bed under the middle of the cluster: a headboard up to about 75 cm high will cover the empty bottom of the design and the lone drop, and the petals will stay above it. Choose light bedding, linen and brass lamps, which pick up the old gold.

A third place is a dressing room or a corner with a dressing table. The wall is seen up close there, so you can see the translucent layers blending and the fine threads. Dark petals on a light background stay legible from a few metres away too, which is why INK HYDRANGEA suits the wall behind the tables in a restaurant. The composition carries its weight in the upper half, so it needs a full-height wall, without sloping ceilings or tall built-in units.

How do you choose the size and material?

We print the cluster of petals as one large image to the size of your wall. In the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page you set the dimensions, material and crop; if your wall has narrower proportions than the design, decide there whether only the dark cluster should remain, or also the pale haze on the right.

For this composition we recommend first of all Mura Vinyl Canvas or Mura Vinyl Intonaco. Canvas has the texture of natural canvas and is the most versatile: the translucent petals look on it like a picture on a stretcher frame. Intonaco has the texture of trowelled plaster, which adds structure to the large, smooth blots of turquoise. The alternatives are Mura Vinyl Sabbia, with a pronounced coarse sand grain texture, visible above all on the empty cream background, and Mura Natur, an eco-friendly matt non-woven, whose matt finish suits the watercolour look of the petals.
