KINDRED PAIR - two horses wall mural for bedroom and hall

One horse rests its forehead against the other, and that is the whole story of this image. The rest of the wall is an even, pale grey that says nothing more. A quiet, tender gesture in white, black and graphite enters the room, readable from the doorway.

What can you see in the design?

KINDRED PAIR shows two piebald horses standing side by side, their heads turned towards the viewer and pressed together. The horse on the left of the image has a white head, neck and front of the body, and a dark rump, from grey to black. The horse on the right is the opposite: a black head with a thick mane, a black chest and front legs, a large white patch on its side, and a grey rump. The muzzles have a pinkish-brown tone. The heads meet exactly in the middle of the wall, and the bodies spread to the sides almost symmetrically. On a wall 260 cm high the horses measure about 220 cm from ears to hooves, and their heads occupy a height of about 140–230 cm above the floor. Together the pair is about 2.9 m wide. The legs dissolve at the bottom into an almost white patch, as in fog or on snow. The contours are soft, and broad dry-brush marks show in the background and on the coats.

How does it differ from CHALK AND COAL?

Both designs show a pair of horses on a plain background. In CHALK AND COAL the white and the black horse stand apart, and the pale one almost vanishes into the background. Here the horses touch, each combines white and black, and the background is cooler, a pale grey instead of a linen shade.

Which interior does it suit?

In a hall the image is seen up close and in passing, so a simple, instantly understood motif counts. A low bench in black oak, a wool cushion and a pale stone floor are enough. In a bedroom a pair of horses above the bed has an obvious meaning; grey linen bedding and a black throw will repeat both coats, and a low bed will cover only the lower parts of the legs. In a living room, put a sofa in pale grey bouclé and a black marble table in front of the wall. In each of these interiors keep the centre of the wall above about 130 cm clear: both heads are there, so set lamps and tall vases to the side.

How do you choose the size and material?

This wall mural with two horses is made as a single image printed to the size of your wall. Because the pair stands in the middle, at a height of 260 cm it fits entirely on a wall about 3 m wide, with a narrow margin of background. A wider wall only adds calm grey at the sides.
