KUJIRA RISING - Japanese-style whale wall mural for a dining room

A golden sky, billowing clouds and dark waves at the bottom: this wall looks like a Japanese woodblock print enlarged to the size of a room. The whale rises diagonally above the sea, so the whole composition has a distinct upward movement.

What does the design show?

KUJIRA RISING shows a blue-turquoise whale rising diagonally: its tail is low, on the left of the image, and its head high, on the right. Kujira is the Japanese word for whale. A fine gold ornament of wavy lines and swirls covers the animal’s back, side and head, and one of the fins has a white tip. On a wall 260 cm high the whale measures about 3.1 m from tail to snout, and the lower of its fins ends about 110 cm above the floor.

Behind it are billowing clouds with flat, outlined shapes, cream and powder pink. The top is taken by a sky the colour of old gold with a network of fine scratches. Dark navy waves with white, ragged foam roll along the bottom: one crest rises on the left, another a little to the right of centre, both to about 85 cm, and towards the right edge the waves drop to about 35 cm. Gold is a printed colour here: a warm, muted yellow.

How is it different from similar designs?

The collection has a very similar design, FLOATING WORLD. Three things set them apart: there the whale dives, with its tail high in the upper left corner, the clouds are cream, without pink, and one tall wave stands on the right. If you prefer upward movement and warmer, powder-pink clouds, choose KUJIRA RISING. The third in this family, EDO LEVIATHAN, is navy.

Which interior does it suit?

As a Japanese whale wall mural, the design suits a dining room above all, because you look at the wall behind a table for a long time and there is a lot of detail here. A long walnut table, chairs with woven seats and a paper lamp in the Japandi style repeat the warm gold of the sky and the cream of the clouds. The tabletop falls just under the crests of the waves, so the whale and the clouds remain above it in full.

In a restaurant with sofas upholstered in turquoise velvet and brass lamps, the golden sky comes into its own in the warm evening light; this is a possible use in a room with a long wall. In a hallway a narrow console with a vase and a lamp is enough: you stand close to the wall there, so the gold ornament is visible.

How do you choose the size and material?

It is a single image printed to the size of your wall; you set the dimensions, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. At a height of 260 cm the image is about 460 cm wide. On a wall narrower than about 3.3 m the whale will not fit in full: then choose the head with the fins, or the tail. The waves reach about 85 cm at most, so a sofa with a higher back will cover almost all of them.

We recommend Mura Vinyl Canvas and Mura Vinyl Intonaco. Canvas, with the weave of natural canvas, is the most versatile and does not compete with the fine gold line of the ornament. Intonaco, with a trowelled plaster texture, is structured; together with the scratches on the golden sky it gives the impression of an old wall painting. As an alternative consider Mura Vinyl Sabbia, which has a pronounced coarse sand grain and is neither smooth nor satin: the grain is also visible on the fine lines of the ornament. Mura Natur is an eco-friendly non-woven, matt, odourless and hypoallergenic; its matt finish suits the large, calm planes of the sky.

How can you buy with confidence?

With this design the most important thing is how the shade of the golden sky looks next to your wood and fabrics. A sample answers that, ordered from the product page: a print of about 90 × 50 cm, on one or two materials, which we ship in 1–3 working days.

On the product page you can also create an AI visualisation on a photo of your own room yourself, and on request our team will prepare a studio visualisation in 1–2 working days. On request the studio will adapt the composition, colours and crop of the design to the interior. Orders are usually completed in 3–7 working days; shipping in Poland and Europe is free, and for other countries the rate shown in the basket applies. On request we arrange installation anywhere in Europe, individually quoted, and the printing is eco-friendly and certified.

All the whale designs, including light and children’s ones, are in the Sky Whales collection. You will find other sea designs among the wall murals with a sea theme.
