MILK AND HONEY - light whale wall mural for a bedroom and bathroom

A creamy white whale swims across a very light wall of vertical, blurred bands of white, ivory and sand. From a distance you see mainly the warm, milky background; the animal reveals itself after a moment, because it almost merges with the colour of the wall.

What does the design show?

In MILK AND HONEY the whale swims to the left in the upper part of the wall, with its tail on the right and a long fin lowered towards the bottom. At a height of 260 cm it measures about 3 m from snout to tail tip, and the fin is about 80 cm long and ends about 100 cm above the floor. Only a delicate shadow under the body, grey-beige stripes on the throat and a small dark eye set it apart from the background.

The background is abstract: vertical bands of white, ivory, sand and light grey, in places with a cooler, grey-blue shade. Beneath the whale and on the right of the image warmer, honey-coloured patches appear. The lower part of the wall, up to a height of about 95 cm, is bands alone, with no motif. The design looks as if painted with a broad, dry brush: streaks and the weave of fabric are visible, and they are part of the image.

How is it different from similar designs?

It is the lightest and warmest of the three designs with a light, painterly background. GREY NIMBUS is cool, grey-blue, with clouds, and OCHRE PASSAGE has stronger contrast, navy and ochre. If you are looking for a wall that will hardly darken the room, choose MILK AND HONEY.

Which interior does it suit?

In an adult bedroom and in a bathroom, it is above all the palette that works. A cream whale wall mural in shades of milk and honey goes with bleached wood, raw linen, pale stone and aged brass. Above a low bed or a freestanding bath the whale remains visible in full, because the tip of its fin falls about 100 cm above the floor. In a baby’s or a small child’s room, other qualities of this design count: the absence of strong contrasts, one large, gentle shape and neutral colours that impose neither blue nor pink. Up close you see the eye, the throat stripes and the long fin, and from the other end of the room the wall remains a light background. A cot and a rocking chair fit beneath the whale.

How do you choose the size and material?

We print one large image to the size of your wall, and you choose the dimensions, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. At a height of 260 cm the image is about 460 cm wide. On a wall narrower than about 3.2 m the whale will not fit in full; in a small room choose a crop with the head, the eye and the long fin.

We put Mura Vinyl Canvas first: it has the weave of natural canvas, is the most versatile and matches the fabric weave visible in the design itself. The second main material is Mura Vinyl Intonaco, structured, with a trowelled plaster texture; with it the light bands look like a worn wall. An alternative is Mura Vinyl Sabbia, which is neither smooth nor satin and has a pronounced coarse sand grain: on such a light design the texture becomes the main pattern of the wall.
