MONSOON - graphite and beige palm wall mural for restaurants

A dense, dark clump of palm rises from the earth, while beside it pale plant silhouettes dissolve into mist as if after a downpour. A wall like this calms a room and gives it depth: instead of a flat colour, you face a space with a distinct foreground and a distant, hazy background.

What does the design show?

A large palm in dark graphite spreads from the left edge of the image to roughly three-fifths of its width. Many slender stems grow from a single point near the bottom edge and fan out into feathery fronds that reach almost to the very top. Low on the left side of the image lies a blurred, pale sand-coloured clump of leaves. The right-hand part is filled with cream silhouettes of fluffy palms and grasses, from which vertical drips run downwards – a light counterweight to the dark plant. At the top the background is grey-blue, with vertical streaks and fine dark splatters in the centre, and in the lower half it shifts into sandy beige. Along the bottom edge, in the centre, a dark band of earth is visible. The whole image has a painterly texture with worn, rubbed patches. On a wall 260 cm high, the image is about 460 cm wide, the dark palm about 230 cm tall and the pale silhouettes on the right about 210 cm.

Which interiors does it suit?

In a restaurant, the dark palm is a clear focal point visible from the far end of the room, while the beige background does not draw attention away from the tables. Place tables by the right edge of the palm or beneath the light section so that its silhouette stays uncovered – in our room setting in a former hacienda, a low linen bench hides only the lower stems. In a bedroom, set a low bed in front of the cream palms: in warm evening light the grey-blue streaks soften, while the graphite still stands out clearly. In a study, the greys and sands go well with oak, pale stone and cognac-coloured leather. This dark palm wall mural in beige fits Japandi and colonial styles, as well as calm minimalism with natural fabrics.

How do you choose the size and material?

The design is a single image printed to the size of your wall. You set the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page – on a narrower wall, shift the crop so that the whole dark palm fits together with part of the pale silhouettes. The main choice is Mura Vinyl Canvas, the most versatile option, with a natural canvas weave: the canvas brings out the feathery fronds and keeps the fine splatters intact. Mura Vinyl Intonaco has a trowelled plaster texture that blends with the rubbed background and the drips, so the image looks like a painting on the wall, especially when viewed from a few metres away. As alternatives, you have Mura Vinyl Sabbia, with a pronounced coarse sand grain – it is neither smooth nor satin and, in side light, accentuates the beige lower part of the image – and Mura Natur, an eco-friendly matt non-woven that is odourless and hypoallergenic, on which the grey-blue background stays calm.
