MOTHWING - pale grass wallpaper on a taupe background for a study

The wall looks like greyish-brown paper on which a field of tall grasses has been sketched in pale crayon. The warm background calms the room, while the slender, cream plumes give it lightness and rhythm without a single strong focal point. This taupe wallpaper with pale grasses is the botanical wall for you if you want nature in your interior, but without greenery and without saturated colours.

What does the design show?

A dense stand of slender, tall plumes fills the entire width of the image and reaches its top edge, so you will not see an empty sky or one dominant plant here. Most of the plumes are creamy white and drawn with a fine, delicate line. In the left and central parts of the image they intertwine with darker, greyish-brown plumes, which builds depth: the pale grasses seem closer, the dark ones further away. The taupe background is warmer than in most designs in the collection, darkest in the upper band and crossed by blurred horizontal streaks. Along the bottom edge grows a thicket of thin blades, which visually anchors the composition above the floor. On a wall 260 cm high, the image is about 460 cm wide, individual feathery plumes measure from about 70 to about 110 cm, and the band of dense blades at the bottom takes up about 50–60 cm. Up close you can see individual strokes and the fine hairs of the plumes; from a few metres away the whole merges into a soft, pale texture on a warm grey background.

Which interiors does it suit?

It feels most at home in a study. Taupe combines with walnut, oak and brown leather, and the wall behind the desk is not distracting, because there is no point on it that draws the eye. In our study room setting, a walnut desk on slender legs stands by the lower band of blades and leaves the plumes fully visible. It also works well in a bathroom with pale stone or travertine: the warm grey of the background brings out the honey and pearl tones of the cladding, and a white freestanding bath stands out well against the design. The third suggestion is a hotel room or a Japandi-style guest bedroom, with taupe linen and a low bed. In north-facing light the background looks cooler; in the warm light of lamps the cream tones of the plumes come through more strongly.

How do I choose the size and material?

The design is one image printed to the size of your wall. You set the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. On a narrow wall you can choose the section with darker plumes on the left side of the image or the lighter, airier part on the right. As a starting point we recommend two materials:

• Mura Vinyl Canvas – a natural canvas weave, the most versatile; it emphasises the paper-like character of the background and does not compete with the fine line.
• Mura Vinyl Intonaco – a trowelled plaster texture, structured; it works with the distressed background and horizontal streaks, and suits a bathroom with stone.

An alternative is Mura Vinyl Sabbia with a pronounced coarse sand grain texture, which is neither smooth nor satin – up close the grain overlays the delicate plumes, so it is better suited to a wide wall viewed from a few metres away, for example in a hotel lobby.
