NILE MARSH - wall mural with papyrus clumps for hallways and bedrooms

Two plants meet on a single wall: one as dark as ink, the other as pale as ivory. Tall papyrus stems rise from a misty brown band near the floor, and a calm, warm grey background shows through between the plumes. A wall like this quietens a hallway or bedroom and gives the interior a vertical rhythm without a single patch of green.

What does the design show?

On the left of the image, across roughly two fifths of the width, stands a clump of dark brown, almost black papyrus. Slender stems with feathery, drooping plumes lean to the right and reach from the bottom edge almost to the top. From the centre to the right edge grows a dense stand of cream papyrus: round, fluffy plumes on long stems fill the upper two thirds of the height, and single pale stems also show through behind the dark clump. The background is a warm grey shade of taupe with worn, rubbed areas; at the top right of the image lighter patches of plaster are visible, and along the bottom edge the grey turns into a band of brown. On a wall 260 cm high, the whole image is about 460 cm wide. The dark clump reaches a height of about 245 cm, a single cream plume measures about 25–35 cm, and the brown band near the floor takes up about 35 cm.

Which interiors does it suit?

Hallway. In a passageway you see the wall from 1–2 metres away, so the drawing of the individual stems is easy to read. Pale stone or beige flooring echoes the cream stand, while a low oak console beneath the right-hand part of the wall leaves the dark clump uncovered.

Bedroom. Warm grey and sepia bring calm to the wall behind the bed. Set the crop so that the bed stands beneath the pale stand, while the dark clump on the left of the image stays uncovered, with nothing cutting across it. Linen, undyed wool, clay and honey-toned wood all go well with it.

Hotel and living room. In a hotel suite or a rustic living room with rattan and light wood, the wall forms a calm backdrop for furniture in shades of beige, and the brown along the bottom edge ties in with a wooden floor or a jute rug.

How do I choose the size and material?

On a wall narrower than about 4.6 m at a height of 260 cm, choose a crop that keeps the dark clump and part of the pale stand – it is the pairing of the two that makes this design.
