NORTH WIND - white horse portrait mural for bedroom and living room

A white horse tilts its head slightly and looks straight into the room, while a dark navy mane streams above its forehead. The wall is cool and misty at the top, cream and quiet at the bottom, so the interior gets one clear point where the eye rests and plenty of calm background around it.

What does the design show?

NORTH WIND is a portrait of a single white horse, shown from the chest up. The head fills the middle of the upper half of the image and is turned slightly to the left; the ears reach the very top edge, and the nostrils fall roughly halfway up. On a wall 260 cm high with a full crop (about 460 cm wide), the head measures about 150 cm from the ears to the lower edge of the muzzle, and the muzzle ends about 110 cm above the floor. The mane is dark navy, thrown to the sides in broad strokes, and above it, near the top edge, you can see rust-coloured scuffs. The muzzle has a warm pinkish-brown tone, and the eye is dark and calm. The neck and chest dissolve downwards into white, cream and ochre, with no clear outline of the legs. The background shifts from grey-blue at the top to cream at the bottom, and across the whole surface you can see the weave of the canvas and the marks of a broad brush.

How does it differ from similar designs?

There are several white horses looking at the viewer in the collection. Here the head sits in the middle of the wall, the background is cool and the mane is navy. In TENDER GLANCE the head is shifted to the left, the background is sage and beige, and coral patches appear near the neck. SIENNA STANCE shows the whole figure of the horse against a wide rust-coloured band.

Which interior does it suit?

In a bedroom the design goes on the wall behind the bed: a low headboard will hide only the blurred chest, and the head stays high above the pillows. The grey-blue background goes well with linen bedding in blue and grey and with a bleached or grey floor. In a living room, good company is a low sofa in stone or oat and a cream wool rug, because they echo the warm lower part of the image. A third option is a library or reading nook with a deep armchair: the shelves then stand against the side walls and the horse has the whole width to itself. Put table lamps to the side, against the plain background, so that they do not reach the horse's head.

How do you choose the size and material?

On a wall narrower than about 460 cm the crop takes in less background at the sides, and the head stays in the middle. The ears touch the top edge, so do not trim the image from above when cropping.

The main materials are Mura Vinyl Canvas, the most versatile, with a natural canvas texture that matches the weave visible in the image itself, and the textured Mura Vinyl Intonaco, with a trowelled plaster texture: on it the misty background resembles a wall painting. An alternative is Mura Vinyl Sabbia, with a distinct coarse sand grain texture (it is neither smooth nor satin), as well as Mura Natur, an ecological non-woven, matt, odourless and hypoallergenic.

How do you buy with confidence?

Grey-blue can look greyer in the warm light of lamps, and cream can look more yellow, so order a sample first: a print of about 90 × 50 cm, on one or two materials, sent within 1–3 working days. Hold it against the wall next to the bedding or sofa and look at it in the morning and in the evening.
