OCHRE PASSAGE - abstract whale wall mural for a living room

Here a white whale swims across a wall that looks like a huge abstract canvas: cream, ochre and grey-blue patches overlap like paint spread with a palette knife. This is a design for adults, for an interior where the wall is meant to be a picture, not a backdrop with a marine motif.

What does the design show?

In OCHRE PASSAGE there are no clouds or waves. The background is abstract: cream, sand and ochre blend into a grey-blue that thickens in the lower left corner, up to a height of about 110 cm on a wall 260 cm high. Ochre returns at the left edge, at the top on the right and in small dots to the right of the tail. Worn patches, drips and white splashes are visible everywhere.

The whale swims to the left in the upper half of the wall and raises its tail on the right. It is white, with a navy throat with pale stripes and a dark fin pointing down. From snout to tail tip it measures about 3 m, the underside of its body is about 125 cm above the floor, and the tip of the dark fin falls at a height of about 90 cm.

How is it different from similar designs?

The collection has three designs with a light background and a distinct texture, and they are easy to confuse. In GREY NIMBUS the white whale swims among grey clouds, and in MILK AND HONEY it almost merges with the cream bands. Of the three, OCHRE PASSAGE has the strongest contrast: the navy throat and the ochre background clearly set the animal off from the wall.

Which interior does it suit?

As an abstract whale wall mural for a living room, the design works like a large-format painting. A low oatmeal-coloured sofa, a warm-wood table and travertine on the floor repeat the cream and ochre of the background, and the grey-blue gives them a cool counterweight. The back of the low sofa stays beneath the whale and covers only the lower band of patches.

In a study, ochre ties in with a walnut parquet floor and a cognac-coloured leather chair, and a desk with a glass top does not cover the lower part of the image. A third possibility is a restaurant with a pale stone floor and a sand-coloured sofa placed against the wall: from the other end of the room you can see the whale’s silhouette, and from a table a texture resembling thickly applied paint.

How do you choose the size and material?

We print a single image to the size of your wall. You set the dimensions, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. On a wall 260 cm high the whole image is about 460 cm wide and the whale about 3 m long, so it fits whole on a wall at least about 3.2 m wide. On a narrower one, choose a crop with either the head and the fin or the body and the tail.

We recommend above all Mura Vinyl Intonaco and Mura Vinyl Canvas. Intonaco has a trowelled plaster texture and is structured: it reinforces the impression of a wall covered with thickly applied paint. Canvas has the weave of natural canvas and is the most versatile; with it the whole resembles a painting on a stretcher frame. As an alternative consider Mura Vinyl Sabbia, which is neither smooth nor satin and has a pronounced coarse sand grain that suits the sandy parts of the background, or Mura Natur: an eco-friendly non-woven, matt, odourless and hypoallergenic, whose matt finish tones down the contrast of the patches.

How can you buy with confidence?

Ochre and grey-blue look different in daylight and under lamps, so see them in your own home. You can order a sample from the product page: a print of about 90 × 50 cm on one or two materials, shipped in 1–3 working days. Hold it against the wall next to the sofa, in the morning and in the evening.

Even before the sample, you can create an AI visualisation on a photo of your own room on the product page. On request, our team will prepare a studio visualisation in 1–2 working days, and the studio will adapt the composition, colours and crop of the design to the interior. Orders are usually completed in 3–7 working days. Shipping in Poland and Europe is free, and to other countries it is charged at the rate shown in the basket. On request we arrange installation anywhere in Europe, individually quoted, and the printing is eco-friendly and certified.

The other designs, from golden ones in the Japanese style to a night sky with stars, are in the Sky Whales collection. You will find other designs with a hero from the natural world in the wall murals with animals category, and a consultation with our studio will help you choose the material.
