OPAL PANE - pale stained glass ginkgo wall mural

Large, pale leaves fill the wall and look like panes of milk glass laid one on top of another. White and ivory let blue and celadon show through, so the room seems lighter and airier, and the image works as a calm, luminous surface. It is the lightest of the three palettes of the same composition.

What can you see in the design?

A dozen or so fan-shaped ginkgo leaves overlap across the whole surface of the image, with almost no empty background. Each leaf has thin white veins and a beige outline, and pale blue and celadon show through its pane, as through glass or ice. The largest leaf spreads out in the middle, slightly to the right; on a wall 260 cm high it is about 160 cm wide and about 90 cm tall. Above the leaves, at the top edge, a narrow band of pale, grey-blue sky is visible. Here and there single sea-green gaps open up between the panes. The lower 60 cm or so is taken up by a cracked, rough texture like stone or cracked glazed tiles in beige, sand, rust and mint, with greenish stalks running through it. Of the three versions of this composition, OPAL PANE has the most delicate outlines and the most light: in the grey QUARTZ PANE the outlines are almost black, and in the olive MOSS PANE the background darkens to sea-blue. The effect of glass and cracks comes from the flat print alone.

Which interiors does it suit?

In a bathroom with pale stone and a freestanding bath, the translucent leaves resemble frosted glass, and the celadon goes with linen towels and teak. In a bedroom of restrained, geometric proportions, the pale image behind a low bed with a linen headboard does not overwhelm, and celadon bedding repeats its shade. In a hotel suite or a spa area, the white and ivory pick up terrazzo and pale upholstery, and the whole reads as one luminous wall. The design looks best in a room with a large window: the more diffused light there is, the more clearly the blue beneath the leaves shows.

How do you choose the size and material?

We print OPAL PANE as a single image to the size of your wall, and you choose the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. At a height of 260 cm the whole image is about 460 cm wide. The design has no single focal point, so on a narrower wall a crop from any part still shows a dense pane of leaves; if you want to keep the largest leaf, set the centre of the crop slightly to the right.

It is a print of about 90 × 50 cm on one or two materials, shipped in 1–3 working days; on it you will see whether the blue and celadon look too cool next to your tiles and fabrics.
