ORGANZA - turquoise watercolour ginkgo mural for a dining room

Huge, crumpled ginkgo leaves cross the wall diagonally like bolts of thin organza held up to the light. It is a design of large scale and clear movement: it turns one wall of a dining room or restaurant into a backdrop visible from every seat at the table, and the smoky blue around the leaves lets it breathe.

What can you see in the design?

The main clump of leaves forms a broad band that runs from the bottom left corner towards the top edge in the middle of the image. The leaves are icy white and pale blue, translucent, with deep turquoise, sea-coloured centres and veins in the colour of copper and ochre. A second, smaller clump with a dark turquoise heart hangs in the top right corner. From both clumps thin, thread-like lines fall downwards, reaching almost to the bottom edge.

Two large leaves are drawn as an outline only, with delicate radiating veins: one in the bottom right part of the image, the other by the top left edge. The background is smooth and even, in a smoky blue. On a wall 260 cm high, the diagonal band of leaves is about 3.2 m long, the clump in the top right corner about 1.8 m wide, and the outlined leaf on the right side of the image about 1.7 m wide and 1.15 m high.

Which interiors does it suit?

Dining room. Turquoise and copper go well with teak, ash and chairs with paper-cord seats. Place the long table more than a metre from the wall: the chair backs will then hide only the falling threads, and the whole clump of leaves will stay visible. The room setting in the gallery shows such a dining room in a 1950s Copenhagen flat.

Restaurant. Above a low banquette running along a long wall, the design works like a large painting that guests see from the other end of the room. The white linen of the tablecloths, pale limestone and cognac leather bring out its cool blue and warm copper.

Living room. With a low sofa in cream linen and an armchair in sea turquoise, the wall becomes the accent of the whole room. Place the left end of the sofa away from the lowest turquoise leaf, so that it does not cut across the clump.

How do you choose the size and material?

ORGANZA is one image printed to the size of your wall, and you choose the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. At a height of 260 cm the whole image is about 4.6 m wide. On a wall narrower than about 3 m, choose a crop with the diagonal band from the left side of the image; the clump from the top right corner and the outlined leaf can then stay outside the crop.

It is a print of about 90 × 50 cm on one or two materials, shipped in 1–3 working days; hold it against the wall by the table and check the colours and the texture of the material at home.
