OYSTER FLURRY - wall mural with scattered ginkgo leaves

Nine large ginkgo leaves scattered across the wall make the room look as if an autumn wind had paused in it for a moment. Cream fans lie on a grey-ochre background as if on old, worn plaster, and the pale colours brighten even a wide windowless wall.

What can you see in the design?

The leaves in white, ivory and pale peach are spread evenly across the whole width of the image, with no single main focal point. At the top, two lie on the left side of the image, one large one in the middle and one in the top right corner; lower down, three fill the left and middle part, and two more touch the right edge. Each leaf has a thin stalk pointing downwards and densely drawn veins, and its surface looks like a thick layer of cream paint – a painterly effect rendered in a flat print.

The background is worn and built up in layers: a cool grey in the lower part and by the sides turns at the top, in the middle, into warm ochre and peach, and in the bottom right corner it darkens into a brown patch. On a wall 260 cm high the whole image is about 450 cm wide, and individual leaves are from about 60 to about 120 cm wide, so even from the far end of the room their fan shape is clearly visible.

Which interiors does it suit?

In a living room the design looks good behind a low, rounded sofa: with the leaves scattered across the whole wall, the backrest will cover only the lower tips of a few of the lowest fans, and the rest of the composition stays visible. The cream fans go with pale oak, travertine and ivory-coloured fabrics, and the grey of the background with oatmeal linen and steel window frames. In a dining room with a round table in the middle of the room, the large leaves give the whole wall scale and do not compete with the tableware, because the palette is muted. A scattered pattern with no single focal point also suits a hotel guest lounge: the wall looks coherent from every armchair a guest might sit in. The design feels at home in Art Deco interiors, in classic townhouses and in calm modernism.

How do you choose the size and material?

OYSTER FLURRY is one large image printed to the size of your wall. You enter the width and height in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page, and you set the crop there. Because the leaves are scattered evenly, on a narrower wall the design keeps its character whether you choose the left or the right part of the image; just decide whether the crop should include the warm ochre patch at the top in the middle.

As the main material, choose Mura Vinyl Canvas, with the texture of natural canvas – the most versatile, on which the worn background resembles a painting on canvas – or Mura Vinyl Intonaco, with the texture of trowelled plaster, a structured material that in raking light strengthens the impression of an old stone wall. The alternative is Mura Vinyl Sabbia: a pronounced coarse sand grain, neither smooth nor satin, most interesting on a wall viewed from a few metres away. You can also choose Mura Natur, an eco-friendly non-woven – matt, odourless and hypoallergenic – on which the greys and the ochre look soft.

Hold it against the wall where the design is to go and check how the warm ochre and the grey of the background look in your light and next to your floor, and how the texture of the chosen material changes by the window. On request the studio will adjust the composition, colours and crop of the design to the interior, for example by moving the leaves or warming the grey of the background.
