PLEATED FANS - ginkgo leaf wall mural for a living room

Densely arranged ginkgo fans cover the whole wall like pleated fabric: the veins of each leaf radiate like folds, and cool slate greys interweave with sand and caramel. An image like this gives a living room rhythm and an elegant, hushed tone, against which velvet and leather look carefully chosen.

What can you see in the design?

Large ginkgo leaves overlap across the entire surface of the image, with no empty areas; in the gaps you see only a white background with cloudy watercolour patches in grey and pale lilac. Each leaf has a clear, fine drawing of veins that run radially from the base to the wavy edge. Slate, navy-grey and cool grey leaves predominate. Warm accents come from leaves in sand and caramel with a reddish-brown outline – in the left part of the image, at the top in the middle and in the bottom right corner. The focal point of the composition is the largest dark leaf, which leans out in the right half on a long, curved stalk. On a wall 260 cm high it is about 150 cm wide and its stalk about 105 cm long; the other fans are usually about 90–125 cm. The whole image, in the proportions of the file, is then about 450 cm wide.

Which interiors does it suit?

In a living room in a townhouse with an oak herringbone floor, the design looks best behind a low sofa in graphite or slate velvet: the navy-grey leaves repeat its colour, and the caramel fans pick up the leather armchair and the travertine table. In a hotel suite or a large bedroom, the image behind a wide bed with a navy headboard and white bedding can be seen from the door, and walnut bedside tables pick up the warm outlines of the leaves. In a dining room with a round walnut table and chairs with woven seats, the wall of leaves becomes a backdrop for conversation; the table stands in the middle of the room, so the whole design stays uncovered. The cool palette looks lovely in south- and west-facing rooms, where the warm afternoon light softens the greys.

How do you choose the size and material?

This is one image printed to the size of your wall: in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page you enter the dimensions, choose the material and set the crop. A wall about 3 m wide and 260 cm high will take roughly two thirds of the image, so decide whether the largest dark leaf should stand above the middle of the sofa or closer to its right end.
