RAVEN ON SAGE - black horse wall mural for a study and a living room

A black silhouette against a cool sage green: the wall gains one strong, dark point and yet stays light and calm. The horse stands slightly turned, with its head raised, and looks straight into the room.

What can you see in the design?

RAVEN ON SAGE is a black horse standing slightly side-on, with its head turned towards the viewer. The head sits to the right of the centre of the picture, high up: the ears reach the top tenth of the wall, and a small pale marking shows on the forehead. The body fills the middle, and a tousled tail falls on the left. The coat is not uniformly black – navy, grey-blue and light grey highlights lie across the rump and flank in broad brushstrokes. The background is a smooth sage green that turns to blue towards the bottom. On the sides and along the bottom it is closed by an irregular cream margin, like the edge of an unfinished canvas, and the horse's legs dissolve into a pale patch at the bottom edge. On a wall 260 cm high with the full crop (about 460 cm wide), the horse measures about 2.1 m from the end of the tail to the chest, the back sits about 175 cm above the floor, and the head is about 70 cm long.

How does it differ from similar designs?

Three designs in the Horses collection show a standing horse looking back at the viewer: this one, QUIET SENTINEL and PALE VIGIL. Only here is the horse black and the background green; in the other two the silhouette is pale, on beige or grey-beige. If you want a contrast that reads from the far end of the room, choose this design.

Which interiors suit it?

In a study, the black of the horse and the sage background go with dark oak, mahogany, a green leather armchair and the brass of a desk lamp; it is a classic, equestrian combination in which the wall mural is the lightest surface. In a living room, the palette of the picture is echoed by light oak boards, a sofa in sage linen and one black piece of furniture, for example a leather pouffe. The third place is a hall with a black-and-cream floor and a dark bench: the cream bottom of the picture then flows into the floor. In each of these interiors, place low furniture and lamps on the left and in the middle, under the tail and the body. The right part of the wall, with the head and neck, should stay empty up to the height of the horse's chest.

How do you choose the size and the material?

This black horse wall mural is a single image printed to the size of your wall; you set the dimensions, the material and the crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. The whole horse fits on a wall about 2.3 m wide. The cream margin is part of the composition: on a narrower wall it will disappear on one side or both, and the green will reach the corner.

The main materials are Mura Vinyl Canvas with a natural canvas weave, the most versatile and consistent with the margin that looks like the edge of a canvas, and Mura Vinyl Intonaco, textured, with a trowelled plaster texture, on which the smooth green gains the character of a wall. As an alternative consider Mura Vinyl Sabbia – a pronounced coarse sand grain, a material that is neither smooth nor satin, with the grain most visible on a plain background – or Mura Natur, an eco-friendly non-woven: matt, odour-free and hypoallergenic.

How can you buy with confidence?

Sage green changes with the light more than black does: by a north-facing window it cools, and under incandescent bulbs it drifts towards olive. A sample will show this: a print of about 90 × 50 cm on one or two materials, which you order from the product page and we dispatch within 1–3 working days. You can make an AI visualisation on a photo of your own room yourself on the product page, and if you prefer a studio version, we prepare it on request in 1–2 working days. On your request the studio can also adapt the composition, the colours and the crop, for example by moving the horse relative to a door. We usually complete orders in 3–7 working days, shipping in Poland and Europe is free (to other countries at the rate shown in the basket), and on request we arrange installation anywhere in Europe, quoted individually.

You can see lighter portraits and horses at a gallop in the Horses collection. If you are furnishing a place to work, also look at the wallpapers and wall murals for the study section.
