REED FRIEZE - rhythmic reed wall mural for dining room and hallway

Around six slender reed plumes, set in an even row, bring order to the wall like a frieze running the length of the room. Plenty of light background is left between them, so the space never feels cramped, and the long wall of a dining room or hallway gains a calm rhythm that you take in from every seat at the table.

What does the design show?

Dark grey, almost graphite reed plumes stand against a light grey background, spaced at similar intervals from the left to the right edge of the image. Each has a straight stem and a feathery plume, and the tips end at different heights: the plume in the centre and the one by the right edge reach highest, while the others stop lower, so the line of the tips gently undulates. The upper part of the background is filled with soft, marbled streaks in silvery grey, reminiscent of distressed plaster. Towards the bottom the background lightens like mist, and thin, curved blades of grass spread out between the plumes. The linework is fine and dense, with a painterly texture visible in the background. On a wall 260 cm high, the image is about 460 cm wide, the plumes are about 110–140 cm tall, and the gaps between them measure about 65–90 cm.

Which interior does it suit?

In a dining room, the row of plumes forms a backdrop for a long table: the vertical stems echo the rhythm of the chair backs, and the greys combine well with oak, walnut and black metal. In a hallway, the design works well on a wall about 4–5 metres wide that you walk past – the rhythm of the reeds leads the eye along the passage, and the light background does not darken a windowless space. In a study, choose it if you want to work beside a calm wall without colourful accents; the graphite of the plumes will match a grey leather chair, teak and pale ash. Stylistically, this design suits minimalist, Japandi and modernist interiors with natural wood, viewed in diffused light.

How do you choose the size and material?

REED FRIEZE is one large image printed to the size of your wall. You set the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. On a narrower wall, choose a crop with two or three plumes from the centre, where the tips reach highest; on a wide wall, keep the whole row, as that is what creates the frieze effect. As the main material we recommend Mura Vinyl Canvas – a material with a natural canvas weave, the most versatile, which brings out the fine linework of the plumes when you see the wall up close, for example in a hallway. Mura Vinyl Intonaco has a trowelled plaster texture that complements the marbled streaks in the upper part of the background, especially in a dining room with side light. Alternatives are Mura Vinyl Sabbia, with a distinctive coarse sand grain that softens the outlines of the plumes, and Mura Natur – an eco-friendly, matt, odourless and hypoallergenic non-woven, on which the greys stay flat and calm.

How can you buy with confidence?

Before you order the whole wall, order a sample from the product page: a print of about 90 × 50 cm on one or two materials, dispatched within 1–3 working days. Hold it against the wall and check how the graphite and light grey look in your light in the morning and evening, and how the texture of the material comes across from the distance of the table.
