SAFFRON TWIG - wall mural with a ginkgo twig on a blue background

Saffron ginkgo leaves fan out from a thin twig against a background the colour of the evening sea, so the wall gains warm light and cool depth at the same time. The long, horizontal motif leads the eye along the room, and the broad brushstrokes in the background recall a large oil painting.

What can you see in the design?

At mid-height runs a brown, slightly arched twig. It starts roughly one fifth of the width from the left edge and reaches the right edge, and by the right edge a thinner offshoot leaves it, going up towards the upper right corner. From it, on short stalks, grow a dozen or so fan-shaped leaves in saffron and butter yellow, with orange tinges at the edges. It is densest above the twig in the middle and on the right side of the image, where three leaves overlap; below the twig hang single leaves on the left, in the middle and on the right.

The background is made of broad, painterly streaks in grey-blue, sea-blue and dark navy. It is lightest, almost pale blue, at the top, to the right of centre, and darkest in the right half beneath the twig, while by the left edge and at the bottom a warm ochre shows through. The thick paint and the brush marks are part of the image – the print itself is flat. On a wall 260 cm high the image is about 460 cm wide, the twig runs at a height of about 115–150 cm, and a single leaf measures about 60–80 cm in height.

Which interiors does it suit?

In a dining room the twig falls roughly at the eye level of people sitting at the table, so you see the leaves during a meal and not only from the doorway. Teak, walnut and chairs upholstered in ochre or mustard wool pick up the yellow of the leaves, and the blue background balances the warm wood. Place the table in the middle of the room – chairs with low backs will cover at most the lowest leaves.

In a hall or a long hallway the horizontal motif leads from the entrance deeper into the flat. In a restaurant or café, in the warm light of the lamps on the tables, the saffron gains depth, and the navy of the background recedes into half-light. The design goes with mid-century modernism and with a stone or terrazzo floor.

How do you choose the size and material?

The whole design is a single image printed to the size of your wall, and you choose the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. On a wall narrower than about 3 m, move the crop to the right: it will take in the dense group of leaves above the twig and the offshoot reaching the upper right corner.
