SMOKE AND UMBER - horse portrait mural for study and living room

A dark horse with a white blaze emerges from a pale mist and looks straight ahead. The wall holds only the horse and blurred planes of blue-grey and cream, so the design gives a room gravity and focus without taking away its light.

What does the design show?

SMOKE AND UMBER is a portrait of a single horse facing the viewer. The head sits in the middle of the image, in the upper half; the body stretches from it to the left and fades at the left edge into a darker patch. On a wall 260 cm high with a full crop (about 460 cm wide), the head measures about 140 cm from the ears to the lower edge of the muzzle, and the muzzle ends about 110 cm above the floor. The coat is dark and brown, built from patches of brown, rust, navy and grey; the forelock and mane are almost black. A broad white blaze runs through the middle of the head, from forehead to nostrils, and it is the lightest spot on the horse. The legs dissolve downwards in broad brushstrokes. The background is light: blue-grey rectangular planes at the top and at the sides, cream at the bottom and on the right of the image.

How does it differ from similar designs?

This is a dark horse facing the viewer head-on, against a light, misty background. NORTH WIND has a similarly cool background, but a white horse with its head slightly lowered. Here the contrast is reversed: a dark silhouette on a light ground and a direct gaze.

Which interior does it suit?

In a study, the browns and navy of the coat go with a dark walnut desk, cognac-coloured leather and smoked oak on the floor. A desk standing in the lower third of the wall will hide only the blurred legs. In a living room the design likes a sofa in grey-blue wool and a leather ottoman: the sofa repeats the colour of the background, the leather the colour of the horse. In a hallway a low oak bench under the horse's chest is enough, because at the entrance the image is seen from a few steps away and the head meets the eyes of whoever walks in. In each of these interiors put the lamp on the right, in front of the empty cream part of the background.

How do you choose the size and material?

This horse portrait wall mural is printed as one image to the size of your wall, and you set the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. The horse takes up the left and middle part of the image, about 245 cm of width at a height of 260 cm. On a narrower wall, move the crop so that the head and chest stay and the rump on the left side of the image is cut off.
