SMOKED HONEY - wabi-sabi wall mural with ginkgo leaves

Cream and honey ginkgo leaves rise from a dark, worn lower part, and a single graphite fan stands among them like a strong stroke in a sketch. Ochre and honey at the top warm the wall, olive greys calm it, and the whole has the character of an old painting seen in warm light.

What can you see in the design?

Six large leaves stand on long, dark stalks. On the left of the image a tall, cream-white leaf reaches the top edge, right by the edge stands a shorter, honey-beige one, and in the left part of the middle a cream one with ochre scuffs. High in the right part of the middle a second cream leaf spreads out, beneath it a graphite, almost black fan that gives the composition a strong accent, and by the right edge a large white leaf with a brown base.

The background is worn and layered: warm ochre and honey at the top on the right, olive grey in the middle and dark olive-graphite patches in the lower part. The thick, painterly texture with scuffs and small chips is part of the image – the print itself is flat. On a wall 260 cm high the image is about 460 cm wide, the leaf fans are about 55–100 cm tall, and the darker lower part reaches about 100 cm.

Which interiors does it suit?

In a study with a mahogany desk, green leather and a brass lamp, the honey tones of the image go with the dark wood. A desk about 75 cm high will cover only the dark lower part, and all the leaves will remain above the desktop – one large image will replace several smaller frames on the wall.

In a mid-century living room, the cognac leather of the sofa, walnut and an olive rug repeat the colours of the background, and low, modernist furniture leaves the whole group of leaves uncovered. In a restaurant or wine bar the dark lower part of the image hides behind the tables, and in the amber light of the lamps the honey and ochre become even warmer. The design suits the wabi-sabi and classic styles, including interiors with a dark floor.

How do you choose the size and material?

You order a single image printed to the size of your wall; you set the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. The graphite leaf is the point around which the composition is arranged, so on a narrower wall keep it in the crop, roughly in the middle or slightly to one side.
