SPECKLED FROND - wall mural with a dark palm and cream leaves

On this wall, dark and pale leaves stand side by side like ink and ivory: the dark palm keeps to the left of the image, while the pale leaf plumes dissolve into a misty background. The wall gains a clear graphic line, yet the room stays calm and bright, because most of the image is taken up by a weathered, warm background.

What does the design show?

On the left of the image, within the first two fifths of the width, a palm clump in graphite navy rises from the bottom edge. It has slender trunks and dense, feathery leaves, and its crown reaches about four fifths of the height. On a wall 260 cm high, the palm is about 210 cm tall and about 210 cm wide, so it is taller than a person standing in front of the wall. In the centre and on the right of the image, large leaf plumes of the same shape float in cream and bone white. The palest of them, in the right-hand third, reaches almost to the top edge. The background shifts from grey-blue in the top left corner and pale cream in the top right corner to sandy ochre in the lower half. Vertical rubbed streaks and a painterly texture recall old plaster, and fine dark spatters can be seen in both top corners.

Which interiors does it suit?

The first choice is a living room with natural materials: linen, pale wood, rattan and jute echo the sandy lower part of the background, while the dark palm provides a single strong accent above the sofa. Place furniture mainly in the centre and right of the wall so that the palm on the left of the image stays uncovered – as in the living room setting in a tropical modernist house, where a low teak sofa stands in front of the pale plumes. In a spa-style bathroom, the grey-blue and cream tones combine with stone, concrete and teak; a freestanding bath in front of the pale part of the image does not hide the silhouette of the palm. The third setting is a hotel lobby, reception area or restaurant: the large scale of the plants stays legible even when you view the wall from several metres away. In an interior with black and brass, this grey and cream palm wall mural brings warmth, and in a white interior it adds a crisp outline.

How do I choose the size and material?

The design is a single image printed to the size of your wall. You set the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page; make sure the crop includes the whole palm clump on the left and the palest plume on the right, because the composition rests on this contrast. Two materials are the main options. Mura Vinyl Canvas has a natural canvas weave and is the most versatile – the fine weave works well with the feathery leaves when you look at it up close, for example from the sofa. Mura Vinyl Intonaco has a trowelled plaster texture that ties in with the rubbed streaks in the background and gives the wall a structure that shows in side light from a window. As an alternative, consider Mura Vinyl Sabbia, with a distinctive coarse sand grain texture, neither smooth nor satin, which brings out the sandy ochre in the lower part, and Mura Natur – an eco-friendly, matt, odourless and hypoallergenic non-woven on which the cream leaves look soft.
