STARLIT WHALE - whale and stars wall mural for a child’s room

A night sky above the bed, and on it a small white whale swimming among the stars. A wall with this design gives a child’s room a story of its own, a calm one. The navy is deep, but the gold stars and the turquoise around the whale keep it from turning gloomy.

What does the design show?

In the middle of the wall a small white whale swims to the right, with its tail raised on the left. It is drawn carefully, like an illustration in a book, with fine lines on the throat. The background around it brightens to sea turquoise. The rest of the wall is filled with a navy night sky sprinkled with tiny gold and white stars. They are densest in the upper half, where they form a bright band across the whole width of the image. The bottom and the corners are almost black, with barely visible clouds. The stars are part of the printed image: the gold and the white are printed colours.

On a wall 260 cm high the image is about 462 cm wide and the whale about 210 cm long. The tips of the fins fall about 90 cm above the floor, and the densest band of stars runs at a height of about 180–220 cm. The largest stars are about 2–3 cm in diameter.

The collection’s other night-time design, INDIGO NOCTURNE, is more austere: a larger whale facing left, drawn with a fine line on a background of vertical bands, with white stars only at the edges and no gold; it also suits adult interiors. STARLIT WHALE is the fairy-tale version, for children: more stars, gold, turquoise and a smaller hero.

Which interior does it suit?

In a baby’s room the navy, white and gold go with a white cot, a cream rug and a brass lamp; place the furniture at the sides so that the whale stays uncovered. In a pre-schooler’s or a schoolchild’s room, put the design behind a bed placed with its head against the wall: with a headboard lower than about 90 cm the whole whale stays above it, and a mustard blanket will echo the gold of the stars. In a reading nook the whale swims above a floor cushion and a low bookshelf.

It is a dark design, and children’s rooms are often small. The bottom of the wall is almost black, so in a room with one small window put the mural on one wall and leave the other walls and the ceiling pale. By day the light from the window brings out the turquoise and the clouds; in the evening, with a small lamp, mainly the white whale and the larger stars stand out against the dark background.

How do you choose the size and material?

We print STARLIT WHALE as a single image to the size of your wall; in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page you enter the dimensions, choose the material and move the crop. The whale here is smaller than in the collection’s other night-time design, so at a height of 260 cm it fits whole on a wall as narrow as about 2.2 m.

First consider Mura Vinyl Canvas and Mura Vinyl Intonaco. The first has the weave of natural canvas and is the most versatile: the weave adds softness to the dark sky. The second has a trowelled plaster texture, is structured and makes the navy background look like a painted wall. An alternative is Mura Natur, an eco-friendly non-woven, matt, odourless and hypoallergenic, or Mura Vinyl Sabbia, with a pronounced coarse sand grain. The latter is neither smooth nor satin: up close its grain shows on the dark background between the stars, so compare it with another material on a sample.

How can you buy with confidence?

Before you decide on a whole wall in a child’s room, order a sample from the product page. It is a print of about 90 × 50 cm on one or two materials, which we ship in 1–3 working days. Hold it against the wall by the bed and check the colours and the texture of the material in daylight and in the evening.

On the product page you can create an AI visualisation on a photo of your own room yourself. On request our team will prepare a studio visualisation in 1–2 working days, and the studio, also on request, will adapt the composition, colours and crop of the design to the interior. Orders are usually completed in 3–7 working days, and we ship free to Poland and the countries of Europe, and to the rest at the rate shown in the basket. On request we arrange installation anywhere in Europe, after an individual quote. The printing is eco-friendly and certified.

You will find lighter skies with the same hero in the Sky Whales collection, and other designs for the youngest among the wallpapers for children’s rooms.
