STEM AND SMOKE - wall mural with delicate grasses for the living room

A few tall clumps of grass on a smoky background, with plenty of open space between them – a wall like this brings order to a room instead of filling it. The grey-olive plumes set a calm, vertical rhythm, while the swirling background has a painterly texture. Your interior gains a botanical accent without strong colour and without clutter.

What does the design show?

The image shows four loose clumps of thin, tall stems topped with feathery plumes: two on the left side of the image, one in the centre and one on the right, with part of a fifth visible at the right edge. Wide gaps of background remain between them, so you see each clump on its own. The dark, thread-like stems run all the way down to the bottom edge, so the grasses look as if they were growing just above the floor.

The background is greige, with a marbled, swirling texture reminiscent of thick oil paint. In the upper part, to the right of centre, darker, smoky streaks drift across. The plumes are grey-olive, the stems come close to graphite, and a cool taupe appears in the shadows of the background. On a wall 260 cm high, the image is about 464 cm wide, the tallest clumps are about 240 cm high and a single plume is about 45–60 cm long. Measured centre to centre, the middle clump stands about 110–155 cm from its neighbours.

Which interior does it suit?

In a living room, the design works best on a wall about 4–5 m wide behind a low sofa: the backrest hides only the lower stems, while the plumes stay visible. Grey-green velvet, travertine and walnut echo the olive and taupe tones of the grasses, which suits interiors inspired by the 1970s.

In a kitchen with grey terrazzo or a stone worktop, the smoky background picks up the cool greys, and a low island placed parallel to the wall does not cut across the clumps. In a study, the grasses form a calm backdrop behind the desk: you sit close to the wall, so you see the oil-paint texture, and the wide gaps do not distract you while you work. In a dining room, the muted grey balances chairs in dusty pink or terracotta.

How do you choose the size and material?

This delicate grasses wall mural is one large image printed to the size of your wall. You set the size, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. On a wall narrower than about 3 m, choose a crop with the central clump and one from the left side of the image to keep the gaps; on a wall about 4.5 m wide, all the clumps will fit.

The main materials are Mura Vinyl Canvas with a natural canvas weave – the most versatile, whose canvas grain works well with the oil-paint background – and the structured Mura Vinyl Intonaco with a trowelled plaster texture, which in light falling from the side brings out the marbled swirls and smoky streaks. As an alternative, choose Mura Vinyl Sabbia with its pronounced coarse sand grain texture (this material is neither smooth nor satin), best seen up close, or Mura Natur – an eco-friendly, matt, odourless and hypoallergenic non-woven, on which the thin stems remain crisp without any added texture.

Before you order the whole wall, order a sample from the product page: a print of about 90 × 50 cm on one or two materials, which we dispatch within 1–3 working days. You can hold it against the wall and check in your own light whether the grey-olive plumes and greige background suit your furniture, and whether the material’s texture suits the distance you view it from. On the product page you can also create an AI visualisation on a photo of your own room, and on request we will prepare a studio visualisation within 1–2 working days. If a clump falls behind a wardrobe or you would like a warmer background, the studio will adapt the composition, colours and crop.
