STILL POND - ginkgo wall mural with impasto effect for a bedroom

Large, pale mint ginkgo leaves look as if they had been painted in thick impasto against a background of green water, in which horizontal and vertical streaks are reflected. The design brings a soft, muted green into the bedroom: pale fans in the upper part of the wall and a calm, grassy lower part.

What can you see in the design?

The ground is a sage shade with vertical and horizontal brushstrokes in emerald and olive-yellow green; they lie like reflections on the surface of a pond. On the left side of the image two large leaves overlap, in the upper part of the middle two more stand, to the right of centre the largest fan opens out, and by the right edge at the top there is a small, faint leaf.

The leaves have the look of thick strokes of paint with distinct furrows, but this is a printed effect – the surface of the wall is flat. From thin stalks in the lower half long, curved lines like blades of grass spread out and fill the bottom of the composition. On a wall 260 cm high the image is about 4.6 m wide, and the largest leaf is about 165 cm wide and about 110 cm high.

Which interiors does it suit?

Bedroom. Pale fans above the headboard create a gentle backdrop for mint and ivory bedding and walnut bedside tables – this is how the bedroom setting in an Art Nouveau apartment in Budapest looks. A low, upholstered bed hides mainly the grassy lower part, and the leaves stay above it.

Bathroom. The emerald streaks of the ground suggest water, so the design suits the wall behind a freestanding bath in pale stone, beside pale green marble and a teak stool. Choose light, matt accessories that do not compete with the leaves.

Hallway. In the entrance hall of a flat a long, low bench is all you need. The large leaves can be read from the door, and the green glass of the vases will repeat the colour of the streaks.
