TAUPE MUSLIN - beige ginkgo leaf wall mural for a hallway

This design works like a light fabric stretched across the whole wall: ginkgo leaves in taupe and greige cover it evenly, with no single spot to draw the eye. The wall becomes a calm, warm backdrop for furniture, and a hallway or hall gains a soft, uniform pattern.

What can you see in the design?

Semi-transparent leaves in taupe, greige and light brown are laid out from left to right and from the top to the bottom edge of the image. They overlap and differ in size and direction – some face upwards, some lean to the side – and each has a thin, wavy stalk. Only the bases of the leaves and the veins by the stalks are darker; the rest resembles watercolour through which the background shows. The background is creamy white, with delicate, marbled distressing.

On a wall 260 cm high the image is about 460 cm wide, and the leaves are from about 45 to about 95 cm wide. At the edges the leaves are cropped, so the pattern looks like a fragment of a larger, continuous surface.

Which interiors does it suit?

In a hall or hallway the even pattern suits a narrow, long wall: the design looks the same from wherever you stand, and a low bench or chest of drawers will not cover any important part of it. When the wall runs along a corridor or staircase, you do not have to worry about where the centre of the composition will fall, because the design has none. In a bedroom taupe and cream go with linen bedding, walnut and pale oak, and the semi-transparent leaves do not dominate the bed. In a bathroom the warm palette looks good next to cement tiles, brass and a freestanding bath. The design suits Scandinavian and Japandi styles and the interiors of classic townhouses.

How do you choose the size and material?

TAUPE MUSLIN is one large image printed to the size of your wall. You enter the width and height in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page and move the crop wherever you like. Because the leaves are scattered evenly, the design keeps its character even on a narrow hallway wall, for example 1.5 m wide – you then choose a fragment of the image, and the pattern stays the same.

Of the two main materials, Mura Vinyl Canvas has the texture of natural canvas and is the most versatile – with watercolour leaves it resembles a delicate fabric. Mura Vinyl Intonaco is structured, with the texture of trowelled plaster, which goes with the marbled distressing of the background. The alternatives are Mura Vinyl Sabbia, with a pronounced coarse sand grain, neither smooth nor satin, and Mura Natur, an eco-friendly non-woven – matt, odourless and hypoallergenic. In a narrow hall, where you see the wall from a distance of a metre, the grain of Sabbia will be very visible; if you prefer a more delicate effect, choose Canvas or Natur.

Taupe and greige are colours that, in different light, drift towards grey or beige, so first order a sample from the product page. You will receive a print of about 90 × 50 cm on one or two materials, shipped in 1–3 working days, and you can check the colours and the texture of the material in the light of your own hall. On request the studio will adjust the composition, colours and crop – for example, change the density of the leaves or warm up the background.
