TRAVERTINE ATLAS - cream marble wall mural with turquoise and gold

A cream stone pattern, across which golden-brown veins run like the lines on an old map – this cream and gold marble wall mural warms the room instead of cooling it. Turquoise appears only on the left of the image, as an arc rising from the floor. The rest of the wall stays light, ready for a bookcase, a table or an armchair.

What can you see in the design?

TRAVERTINE ATLAS has a cream background with a pattern resembling marble or travertine. A network of golden-brown veins divides it into large polygonal fields, hence the association with a map and its borders. From the bottom left corner rises a turquoise arc edged with gold: it goes up, and at one third of the height from the top it turns right and reaches the centre of the wall. The darkest turquoise gathers low on the left, in a patch about 60 cm wide (on a wall 260 cm high). Under the arc, all the way to the centre of the image, lies a cool, grey-blue shadow. In the upper right you will see a broad, diagonal streak of gold about 70 cm long, like the mark of a wide brush. The right half is lighter: cream, with a blue shadow at the top and a few long veins. The edges of the turquoise are soft, as in a watercolour.

The similar ALABASTER COVE is whiter and cooler, and has its turquoise at the right edge. In TRAVERTINE ATLAS the turquoise starts at the bottom left, the background is ivory-coloured, and there are clearly more veins.

What kind of interior does it suit?

The warm background pairs well with walnut, linen and brass, so a library or study is the first place to try. In our room setting a cream linen armchair stands in front of a library wall in a Roman apartment, and the turquoise arc stays visible beside the backrest. In a dining room, place the long table towards the right-hand part of the wall: the pale half of the design will be the backdrop for the chairs and lamp, and the arc on the left will be left uncovered. A kitchen is a purely aesthetic suggestion – cream fronts, a pale stone worktop and brass fittings repeat the colours of the design, and the island covers only the bottom of the wall. Style? Classic, Mediterranean or glamour in warm beiges.

How do you choose the size and material?

At a height of 260 cm, the whole 16:9 composition is about 460 cm wide. If your wall is narrower, you have two crops to choose from: the left one with the turquoise arc, or the right one, almost entirely cream, with the network of veins and the gold streak at the top.

For a stone-like pattern, Mura Vinyl Intonaco is the natural match: structured, with a trowelled plaster texture, on which the design resembles an old fresco.
