WHITE BLAZE - brown horse wall mural for a library and a study

The horse looks straight at you, from close up, and its body dissolves into horizontal bands of beige and rust, as if it stood in shallow water. What remains on the wall is above all the gaze and a broad white blaze; the rest is a warm, sandy background.

What can you see in the design?

WHITE BLAZE is a brown horse with a dark mane and a broad white blaze from forehead to nostrils. The head, shown face-on, sits to the right of the centre of the picture and takes up the upper half of the wall; the ears touch the top edge. The neck and body stretch to the left and lose their outline: the back turns into horizontal bands of beige, cream and rusty brown, and beneath them there are darker, vertical streaks that look like a reflection in water. The background is cream-beige, with a grey-blue patch behind the neck, in the upper part of the picture closer to the middle. The right side is an almost uniform pale beige. Broad brushstrokes and a canvas weave are visible. The horse is clearly larger than life: on a wall 260 cm high with the full crop (about 460 cm wide), the head from ears to nostrils measures about 130 cm, and the blaze alone is about 90 cm long.

How does it differ from similar designs?

The other horse with a white blaze, shown from close up, is WILD FORELOCK. There the coat is grey, with blue and navy, and an orange patch lies above the head; here the palette stays in browns and beiges, and the only cool colour is the grey-blue patch behind the neck. The pose differs as well: in WHITE BLAZE the head is frontal and almost symmetrical, in WILD FORELOCK it is turned slightly at an angle.

Which interiors suit it?

The brown of the coat and the cream background go well with oak bookcases, parquet and an armchair in cognac-coloured leather, which is why the first address is a home library. In a study the design combines with cherry or walnut wood and a brass lamp; the horse looking straight ahead then faces the desk or stands behind the back of the person sitting at it. In a dining room the head falls above the table, and the horizontal bands at the bottom hide behind the chairs without harm to the composition, because they are blurred anyway. Group the furniture on the left and in the middle of the wall. Under the head, on the right, leave the floor free or put something low there; do not hang a pendant lamp in front of the right part of the picture.

How do you choose the size and the material?

This brown horse wall mural is a single image printed to the size of your wall. Lean the sample against a bookcase or a desktop and see whether the colours and the texture of the material agree with the veneer.
