WILLOW SCREEN - wall mural with delicate shrubs for the bedroom

A wall with this beige botanical wall mural with shrubs looks like a screen of thin sprigs with a misty garden glowing behind it. The dark drawing of the shrubs gives the room a calm rhythm, while the warm, distressed background shifting from grey to ochre softens the space and leaves plenty of room to breathe.

What does the design show?

Across the lower two thirds of the image, along its full width, stands a row of slender shrubs with thin sprigs in graphite brown and small, narrow leaves. They do not form a dense hedge: gaps remain between the individual clumps, letting the background show through. Behind them, in the upper half, pale cream shrubs with the same leaves seem to float, looking like a faint reflection of the dark row. They are most visible on the left side of the image, in the centre and closer to the right edge.

The background flows smoothly from light grey at the top through beige to warm sand and ochre along the bottom edge. Across the whole surface you can see a distressed, painterly texture reminiscent of canvas. On a wall 260 cm high, the image is about 460 cm wide, the dark shrubs reach from about 150 to about 215 cm, and individual leaves are about 5 cm long. The drawing reads clearly from a few steps away, and up close it reveals the fine detail of the sprigs.

Which interiors does it suit?

Its most natural home is the bedroom. Towards the top the dark sprigs thin out, and above about 215 cm only the light background with cream foliage remains, so the wall above the bed stays calm, while the densest dark drawing falls at the height of the bed and bedside tables. It pairs well with linen, teak, rattan and bedding in the colour of unbleached cloth.

In the dining room the wide row of shrubs works like an openwork screen behind the table, terracotta echoes the ochre and sand at the bottom of the image, and a dark wooden table picks up the graphite brown of the sprigs. In a spa-style bathroom the sandy background combines with stone and tadelakt, and the fine sprigs bring smooth surfaces to life. The design also works well in a Japandi living room, by a large window with diffused daylight in which the greys and beiges stay soft.

How do you choose the size and material?

WILLOW SCREEN is a single image printed to the size of your wall, with no repeating strips. You set the width, height, material and crop in the “Calculate price and order” configurator on the product page. On a narrower wall, shift the crop so that the pale shrubs sit closer to the centre.

The main materials are Mura Vinyl Canvas and Mura Vinyl Intonaco. Canvas, the most versatile, has the texture of natural canvas and enhances a background that already resembles canvas in the file. Intonaco has a trowelled plaster texture: the distressed areas of the background gain depth, especially in light falling from the side. Alternatives are Mura Vinyl Sabbia, with its pronounced coarse sand grain that strengthens the warm, sandy areas along the bottom edge, and Mura Natur – an eco-friendly, matt, odourless and hypoallergenic non-woven, on which the thin sprigs appear calm and without sheen, something you will appreciate when viewing the wall up close, for example from the bed.

Before you commit to a whole wall, order a sample from the product page: a print of about 90 × 50 cm on one or two materials, which we dispatch within 1–3 working days. Hold it against the wall at different times of day and check how the beiges, greys and graphite brown look with your light, furniture and fabrics, and what texture the chosen material has.
